Honey Products Make Great Hostess Gifts
Looking for an usual hostess gift? Homemade skin care products featuring honey as the main ingredient are the perfect gift to show your hosts how much you value their hospitality. Honey’s antioxidants make it an excellent natural ingredient for pampering one’s skin. Honey helps speeds skin cell turnover and boosts radiance.
Honey - as the product of the altruistic bee - embodies the sacrifice, devotion and nurturing that mothers and mother figures play in all of our lives. In a single bee's lifetime, she will only make 1/2 teaspoon of honey. Bees must visit 2 million flowers in order to make one pound of honey!
Here are two of our favorite honey face care recipes that you can make as gifts for the special women in your life.
Moisturizing Honey Facial Cleanser
Honey is very effective at cleansing skin and removing leftover makeup, particularly when combined with coconut oil. Mix equal parts honey and coconut oil to create a spreadable paste.
Honey & Almond Scrub
This yummy-smelling mixture both exfoliates and moisturizes your skin at the same time. Combine 2 tablespoons of ground almonds (use a mortal and pestle or Cuisinart) and 2 tablespoons of honey to form a thick paste.
Choose Raw Honey
Any flavor of honey will work, so choose one that has an aroma that will be attractive to your gift recipient. Bee America's Orange Blossom Honey has a sweet, citrusy perfume that would make an intoxicating facial cleanser. And, our artisanal Prairie Honey embodies a bright and tangy flavor with spicy floral notes that would make for an invigorating facial scrub. However, it’s important that the honey you select for the cleanser and/or scrub is raw in order to get all of its amazing benefits. Research shows that raw honey contains trace minerals, organic enzymes, and antioxidants. In addition to nutrients like vitamins B and C and magnesium, honey also has pre- and probiotics plus flavonoids and phenolic acids that act as antioxidants.
Apply a Thick Layer
Make sure your gift recipient uses a generous spoonful when applying it to her face. The goal is to end up with a thick layer distributed over the skin. It should be left on for at least 10 minutes so that it can really nourish the face.
Explain to your gift recipient that she should use gentle, circular movements of the hands to work the cleanser and/or scrub into the skin. If the mixture gets too sticky, a small amount of water can be added to the fingers to loosen things up.
Remove With A Heated Washcloth
After about a couple of minutes of massaging, your gift recipient should place a damp, hot cloth over her face. It will create a little steam before removing the honey to reveal glowing, hydrated skin. Rinse any remaining cleanser and/or scrub off with warm water.
You can easily create both the Moisturizing Honey Facial Cleanser and Honey & Almond Scrub in your kitchen and package them in mason jars or small glass containers. Add a fancy ribbon and a hand-lettered gift tag and you’ll have a spa-worthy present.
